“Pit Stop” - Drive Thru training that could save your life and home
On Saturday, February 15, 2014 from 9:30 am-2:00pm, the Murrieta Fire Department will be hosting a dual purpose public education event at 40060 California Oaks Road that will address two of the most widely used emergency actions the public will likely participate in during their lifetime. Members of the public will arrive at Fire Station 2 and drive their cars through the fire truck garage area, where they are swiftly trained on how to perform “Sidewalk” CPR and fire extinguisher use, by fire department personnel.
Sudden cardiac arrest occurs 80% of the time at home for people, and family members are most likely the first people to recognize the seriousness of the situation. The new form of CPR, as of 2010 recommends that a person just perform chest compressions and not breath for an unconscious victim. It has been shown to be more effective and requires no mouth to mouth contact.
If fires are stopped in their initial stages, the chance of growing into a full scale possibly deadly or destructive fire is less likely. The fire extinguisher training will teach people how to control fires at home, workplace, or in a vehicle if one is encountered.
